This book was recommended to me by a friend who is an adoptee when my older sister located me through a genealogy DNA test. My family had no idea she even existed, and as my mother passed years ago, there was no way to get answers.Why would this woman, a wonderful, loving, mother, give a child away and not tell us? What happened that she would take a secret like that to the grave? How could her family not have any idea? This book explained exactly why, how, and what was happening in our society in 1964, when my mother signed away her rights to her firstborn child.It also gave me an insight into why my mother was the way she was. Why she insisted my little sister and I use birth control, going so far as to take us to the doctor for the pill, at a time when it was NOT the thing parents were doing. Why she had a yearly cycle of depression centered around the time that we now know is our older sister’s birthday. Why she never told my father, who she met not long after she gave that baby up. And other pieces, bits of information and things she said that didn’t seem that strange at the time, but looking back meant something so very different and helped put together a puzzle we never knew was there.I’m not known for being overly emotional about things, but this was very difficult for me to read, even knowing in advance the kind of societal pressures on single women of that era. I kept having to walk away for a while after reading this chapter or that story, because it was bringing everything too close for me to handle. My mother was one of these women, and although I knew she’d had an abusive childhood, I had no inkling that she had suffered this injustice as well.Even if you aren’t connected to anyone who may have been touched by this shameful era of our history, this book is a great opportunity to learn the reasons why women’s rights continues to be such an important movement, even today. We can’t let these kinds of things continue to happen 50 or even 60 years later.

I never thought a lot about my own adoption. I was always told that she couldn't take care of me and that's why I was put up for adoption to be placed with a better family. We only spoke about it a few times, and it was taboo bringing up the subject. After reading the book I was able to feel compassion for my birth mother and it opened my eyes how society played a big role in the decision. I was absolutely shocked at 50 years old. I never realized how badly young women were treated and especially out of wedlock. The author was also adopted and was very insightful. For the first time in my life, I can honestly say I don't feel bad about being adopted anymore.

I have been searching for my birth family since I was 18, over 30 years. Finally having an inter-mediator find my birth mother this last week, my birth mother was shocked that I wanted contact with her, she never told her spouse or other children. So the inter-mediator suggested that she read this book. So I decided to read it also. Wow, was I enlightened. Being one of 4 adopted, we always knew we were adopted. I always wondered through the years why she never tried to find me or why she even gave me up.This book really helped me understand it from her perspective.It is a must read!

I am of the generation affected, I remember girls who went away. The ones I knew seemed far different after they returned to school. And the rumors always went around anyways. I guess the girl's parents always thought they were keeping everything hush-hush. Yet sometimes the girl herself would return to school and tell her close friends where she had actually been. And of course, those friends told other friends, and those friends told... Sometimes the boy involved would leave school also. Especially if he or his parents didn't want him to be pressured into a quickie wedding.This very well written book accurately tells it like it was. The saddest part of all of it is that there still remain children and birth parents who have never met. I had a good friend who was a victim of this. And I say victim because I believe far too many of the children grew up with an internal feeling of having been abandoned - no matter how wonderful the adoptive parents were. Plus the unfortunate reality of life is that all adoptive parents are not wonderful, any more than all birth parents are wonderful.This is a worthwhile read for anyone who wants to get a clear picture of what the world was like for women pre "Women's lib".

I was one if those girls back in 1965. For decades I didn't talk about my "past" because I couldn't get over the "shame" of what I did and the horrible sense of loss I felt. I didn't know anyone who would understand what it was like until I read this book. It validated everything I had experienced. Fourteen years ago I was able to meet the son I had never seen or touched. He was 33 years old.I had tried to explain what the times were like in 1965/1966 to my son (as well as to my other adult daughter and son) but it was difficult for them to comprehend. The times had changed a lot! When I read a review of this book in People magazine I ordered it immediately. In places I felt like I was reading my own biography. As soon as I finished reading it (in record time) I turned back to the first page and read it again...this time highlighting passages that were important to me. I gave that copy to my son & insisted that my other two children read it too. It changed everything! All of them said that at times they were brought to tears at how horrible those times were and now they could better understand what I went through. The wonderful man I had married in 1968 never once judged me and supported my desire to find my son. This book is a must read for anyone who has gone through this and still feels the shame and loss! It changed my life!! Thank-you Ann!

Has helped with the pain in my neck. I haven't had to go to Chiropractor since December. I do the neck exercises throughout the day and so far so good.

I rarely write reviews. I should, just don't have/make the time. But this book changed my life after nothing else worked and I was literally minutes from surgery. I had injured my C7-T1 disk such that it was significantly herniated and pressing on the C8 nerve root. For 3 months, I went to physical therapy, slept in a chair every night in a weird position that provided some relief, and saw various pain specialists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, and orthopedic surgeons. When nothing helped I scheduled a keyhole laminectomy with a world-renowned neurosurgeon. At the same time, a family member who had neck issues (he is also a radiologist) urged me to try this book before getting surgery. Having had 2 lower back surgeries in the past, I was familiar with the greatly unpleasant process of recovering from spinal surgery and was willing to anything to avoid it. But I was risking permanent nerve damage by delaying much further. So I kept my surgery date and started the McKenzie Method immediately and with all my vigor as soon as the book arrived. To me, this book was worth, literally, at least 1,000 times its price (considering just the costs of surgery and physical therapy, and not including all the pain and suffering it saved me). It explains in the perfect amount of detail exactly what is happening and why, allowing the reader to understand the problem and how the exercises work to treat the problem, helping the reader visualize the cure while doing the exercises. After 2 weeks of doing the exercises, my pain had subsided considerably, but I still showed up for surgery because it was not entirely gone, and I felt that the dexterity and strength I lost in my left hand due to the nerve compression had not returned. I was in the pre-op room at the hospital, in my gown, nurses and anesthesiologist coming in and prepping. Then my surgeon walks in with a team of med students behind him, eager to observe the procedure. He runs through the series of simple tests we had done during office visits (squeeze his fingers to test strength, etc.), and then he tells me that the surgery is off. He said I had shown such great improvement in such a short amount of time that it is clearly evidence of recovery that he expected to continue without risking further nerve damage. I refer to it as the best surgery I never had, and I truly believe that I owe it to the McKenzie Method. Thank you, thank you, thank you Robin McKenzie. This was over 3 years ago. Although I made a full recovery without surgery, I have had occasional (maybe once every 6 months) minor relapses (pain in the neck and shoulder blade, sometimes a little numbness in the pinkie). Immediately upon onset of the pain, I use the exercises in the book and the pain goes away (usually within the day, but sometimes a couple of days). I have also purchased McKenzie's book for the lower back and try to follow its wisdom regularly. It, too, is very well written. I tend to be one of those readers who wants to flip to the exercises, which are in the middle-back of both books. But after reading both books multiple times, I can verify that there is great benefit to starting on page 1 and reading through. At least in my case, the explanation of the anatomy, movement, and problems was spot on, and therefore provided a calming effect. The explanation of the movement of pain during recovery while doing the exercises was equally spot on, and greatly encouraging.

I bought this book after I had an xray and cervical MRI of my neck showing that I I had a straightening of my neck. I had severe pain in the left side of my neck. Long story short I was prescribed physical therapy, which was a joke. Chiropractor, which I love don't get me wrong, was a joke. I purchased this book for the $9.00 and followed it to a T and within 3 weeks my pain was gone! This is after three months or more of severe pain and spasms in my neck. I kid you not. At first I was very discouraged. I thought it wasn't working but the key is to absolutely follow the routine and it will get better. It did for me. The one exercise that was excruciating for me was to tilt my head all the way back. I could not do it at first. I had to lay on my bed to do that exercise. This book is a must for those with neck pain. I saved hundreds of dollars and wasted days by purchasing this book.

The simple instructions in this book helped me self-treat my excruciating neck pain that was due to some injury and then prolonged bad posture. This will only help if the source of your pain is musculoskeletal (i.e. soft tissue damage). I experienced improvement within 1 week, and was practically pain-free within 2 months. I'm now able to resume my previous exercise routine without problems, I don't wake up with a stiff neck anymore, and my instances of headaches have gone down as well.

This book literally saved me from cervical surgery. Took about a month to completely free my neck ( I have psoriatic arthritis and my neck has been bad for years). Now I have great range of motion, no numbness in arms, no pain. If a little pain or stiffness rear their head I do the exercises on impulse, and it literally restores my range within a day.My surgeon told me my neck was one of the worst he's seen - bone spurs, nerve impingement, 2 very degenerated discs ( I was 1 inch shorter at 40 yrs old than when I was in college). Said surgery wasnt IF BUT WHEN. It's been probably 5 years since and I thank God for Robyn MacKenzie's accidental discovery of this treatment. Buy the book, do it, and you will see.

My physical therapist had me doing some of these exercises for cervical radiculopathy, but after reading this book I understood why. I also found out that I needed to do them more often than I was. After increasing the frequency of the exercises, I got rapid improvement.The book is a quick read, and I highly recommend it.

Excellent book and exercises on treating your own cervical pain. Nothing worked for me until I bought this book. The neck exercises helped right away. I continue to do them as needed. What's great is you can do them anywhere when pain comes on. I also do his back exercises regularly. Back extension is the key. I do them first thing every morning and as needed during the day. If back pain comes on, I either do the standing exercise or just get down on the floor where I am for the back extension exercises. I've done those in stores and outside restaurants. Helps right away. Now I only have to do them at home or standing up elsewhere. The neck exercises I can do anywhere if I get a pain. Those have lessened greatly since doing these exercises. McKenzie is a genius and God-send, motivated not by making money as a physical therapist, but by helping people get pain relief and avoid surgery. His exercise methods ought to be taught more widely in schools for therapists, chiropractors, doctors and surgeons. A lot of surgery could be avoided. I'll never forget reading in his back book that he was taking a drive in the country and came upon a man with car parked at the side of the road and the guy on the ground doing the McKenzie back extension exercises. McKenzie stopped and asked if anything was the matter. The man turned out to be one of his physical therapy patients and he replied, "Just doing my exercises several times a day as ordered." McKenzie replied, good and drove off.

Douglas Van Dorn is the author of Waters of Creation: A Biblical Theology of Baptism and Galatians: A Supernatural Justification. This book is one of the best I've read. Well documented facts and solid conclusions are made based on the facts. Everyone should read this book to gain an understanding of how the who, what, when, where, and how of history and God's plan for humanity. Highly recommended if you've ever felt uncomfortable when the liberals call out that mean old God in the Old Testament who wiped out earth's population with a worldwide flood and ordered the execution of the inhuman (men, women, and children) occupants of the land promised to Abraham's descendants. As usual God had a solid reason for ordering this action by His citizen soldiers as they conquered the Giants in the land. It doesn't seem cruel at all once your know why the Lord directed this action. I strongly advise that you purchase, read, study, and grow. You will be glad you did.

This is a well written book, a very detailed book, a very well researched book, and a very PRACTICAL book. One might be thinking, "Giants? Interesting, but I don't see the relationship to myself." That thought becomes Van Dorn's greatest asset. He does a remarkable job connecting all the very large dots to tell a story that matters.The amount of research that went into this book, which is displayed in great depth in the end-notes, is truly unbelievable. This is no speculative fantasy - it's a well documented journey that starts with evil, and ends up where it should - Jesus Christ. That's the relationship it carries to us, and Van Dorn's concern for the "story" (true!) that reaches through the entire Old Testament and continues today should make our spines tingle. Early on in the reading of this book, someone asked me what I thought so far, and my response was, "creepy, but in a good way." If what the author presents is indeed factual, (and he makes a very strong case that it is) then the ramifications are truly chilling. Ancient DNA manipulation? Creatures so terrifying that the movie industry wishes they could come up with them? It's all here, and it all speaks to the ancient truth of good versus evil, where ultimately, the King of King's seals the final victory. If THAT isn't practical, I don't know what is.Every chapter builds on the last, and gives a tour of Scripture that so many have missed or glossed over for so many years. If it doesn't convince you fully, it will at least make you think real hard about not only how you view Genesis 6, but the entire world - let alone the Bible! There is so much nonsense and fascination with the supernatual in the world today, it's great to see a book that presents the truth in a way that doesn't over-extend into conspiracy theory, but also doesn't deny that there are things in this world that need to be understood.Overall, the book is WORTH the read, whether you are a skeptic, a believer, or someone just interested in the subject matter, - you won't go away disappointed. Money well spent.

The topic of this book is way too complex to be covered in one trade book. Dorn tries, and I think succeeds, in making his case that the Genesis 4 Giants are indeed physical giants that were somehow engendered by spiritual forces or "Watchers" by means of, perhaps, genetic manipulation or metaphysical manipulation. At first the notion seems ludicrous but, for over two thousand years Christians have accepted that God "overshadowed" the virgin Mary in order that God Himself could be born a Son of Man or Son of Adam.The fallen Angels, of coarse, are not God but nevertheless have the power to appear in physical form and even eat and, thus it would seem, have the power to manipulate material energy. Perhaps manipulating DNA and/or the normally fertilized ova of human mothers isn't so ludicrous. Perhaps this whole phenomenon was Satan's primary offense against God's prophesy that the woman's seed would crush his head. Perhaps Satan was trying to transform all seed of women into his seed. What better way to spoil God's plan of redemption for mankind and prevent his own destruction and loss of dominion. Perhaps this seed or genetic frontline of attack is what is in view when God describes Noah as "perfect in his generations"--that his (and presumably his wife's) genome was not contaminated with any trace of Satan's agenda.In any case, Dorn makes a compelling case by dealing with every known objection to his proposition and exploring the scriptures thoroughly and also much etymological evidence. But, as I said, the topic is too complex and needs way to much more in-depth research and exploration for one book to be more than a survey of the propositions. I'm intrigued but I'd like to see more.

Exegesis of the text and comparing scripture with scripture and not necessarily systems of theology or traditions must guide the biblical understanding of any subject in scripture. The author does just that!!! Excellent. With the exception of 3 or 4 points I agree with the Author!!
