Excellent resource book with numerous photographs (many in color). This book is well-organized and easy to use. I am rating five stars on behalf of my dad, a WWII veteran who is extremely knowledgeable about military medals and memorabilia. When he says it's a great book - believe me, take it from a guy who knows: This is a great book. Highest recommendation to those who are interested in this field.
I purchased the book as a research guide in medal identification. The illustrations and large reference pages with excellent color pictures made researching a medal easy. I recommend this book for anyone wanting to find AMERICAN medals. It doesn't include foreign or the older medals issued in a non-formal governmental format. Anything issued by the US government is pretty well covered. Good reading and a valuable research tool.

Since I've had this book, I've used it time and time again as a quick reference guide for the order of precedence and the proper wear of military ribbons and their attachments. The book contains full-color photographs of all the current and previous military medals and ribbons (except the four or five most recent awards) along with a history, proper order of precedence, occasions for wear, and a full explanation of the proper wear of the attachments for each award broken down by each individual service.If you are an awards officer/clerk, then you will appreciate the full-color guide with each of these awards in order and guide for wear. This book beats looking up the official instruction for your particular branch.If you are in the military, a veteran, or an awards officer/clerk in any of the four branches, Coast Guard or Merchant Marines, I'd recommend this book to you.
Shows color plates of all medals, ribbons awarded by the United States. Also shows Foreign Awards authorized as part of U.S. military uniform. The basic criterion for each award is given so you can see if you might be eligible for this award. There are also sections on devices (oak leaves etc.), their meaning and wear, how to wear medals in proper order and on civilian clothing. (a pin is considered appropriate) A section is devoted to the issue of U.S. Medals to Veterans, Retirees and thier families. A Hardcover book which only costs a bit more than the softcover.
