I'm not cooking on a boat, but take frequent motorcycle trips. we have small room to pack and one burner. I was looking for other recipes that would be easy with my one burner and *very* limited cooking gear. This book gave great tips on maximizing limited packing space (I changed my 2 quart pan to a 5 quart); good things to pack and had some great recipes.I'm very happy with this book--and will look at some of the author's other authorings...

Cooking on a small boat an be a pain ... or not: If there's just one/two of you, even at home, this I highly recommend. Nothing 'fancy,' just good solid food.fae

Turned my Sailboat into a Gourmet Restaurant. I also use it at home. Great for a single person, living alone who doesn't want to make a project out of every meal !

If you are looking for a terrific book that will ensure you eat well on camping trips and other day outings, this is the book to reach for since it contains not only "do-able" recipes, but it also includes lots of "how-to's." My husband is an avid Scouter, so he gets lots and lots of use out of this treasure trove of on-the-trail recipes. However, folks, it doesn't stop there! Our daughter, who claims she has never been a good cook (I disagree), can adapt the recipes for the home kitchen and crank out some fine dinners with great taste and minimal fuss for family and friends.

Very Happy!

Small book, good clear instructions, tasty meals, handy guide for new idea's for camp meals. Update your menus and give good idea's for future trip meals.

Looks great and the recipes are easy to prepare with normal ingredients. I am going to try them at home and tick off my favouirtes before I go to sea.

If you have a plant based diet, this book is not for you. new to cooking, want some car camping ideas, or weekend boat ideas... this is probably a better choice.

this book is very bare-bones but the series fills out with information as you go through it.over the course of the series, the author offers a ton of information which i will summarize below:the author provides short overall historical developments with detailed biographies of some notable and obscure hypnotists.the author explains the principles of hypnotism, including: the definitions of hypnotism and trance along with the exact areas of the mindbody that are stimulated by different types of hypnotism; hypnotic roles (trainer and subject, observers both benign and malevolent); applications of internal autosuggestion (for self) and changework (for others), external group stage work and individual clinical or street changework; MANY different examples of hypnotic abuse from the government, advertising, religions and cults, status quo forces in both traditionalism and cultural marxism, psychotherapy field, and erotic/recreational hypnosis, as well as methods for shutting down hypnotic abusers (this may be the most important advice in the entire series).the author explains the different types of preparation a hypnotist needs to undergo to become a competent hypnotist: the hypnotic gaze, use of postures and body movement, voice and microphone training (which the author doesn't explain in much detail but is very important), the process of creating different types of hypnotic prompts (statements such as commands/suggestions, either as demands or as questions) and embedding hypnotic prompts in verbal phrases, descriptions, or questions. without doing this preparation properly, one cannot hope to become a competent hypnotist. i wish the author had written more about the art of freestyling hypnotic verbal patterns on the fly. even though the book comes with many dozens of useful scripts, scriptnosis is rather tedious.the most important parts of the series are where the author describes his 2-part hypnotic process. the two parts are what i call a directional interation, and trancework.directional interaction is made up of a hypnotic interview and pre-talk. THIS is the area where many subjects begin to go into trance, and the author explains how he uses what he calls a problem matrix to find the best course of action for solving a wide variety of problems. another thing i realized as i read through the series is that the author substitutes suggestibility and depth tests into the hypnotic pre-talk as a form of convincer. the author is adamant that a hypnotist does not need to use convincers to find if the subject is in trance. it would seem to me that using the different suggestibility/depth tests during the pre-talk is a way for a stage or clinical hypnotist to nip any doubts in the bud before putting a subject under.the author describes the full process of trancework using the following process: a 4-part engagement using fixed focus and breathing; 3 types of induction (relaxation inductions, confusion inductions based on what the author calls apposition of opposites, and an 8-point shock induction; deepeners using directional language of time and space; and signs of gauging the depth of a subject's trance. the author then explains the ways of using symbolism, hypnotic suggestions, trance loops, thought-viruses, and more in giving a subject hypnotic prompts while they are in trance. the author gives very short shrift to the art of giving posthypnotic triggers and suggestions, which can be used in a variety of ways in hypnotic interaction and trancework. the author offers suggestions for troubleshooting a subject's intractability or resistance as well as the utilization and parts negotiation techniques to disarm interference from their deep mind. finally, he offers multiple scripts for the disengagement (awakening or emergent) part of trancework, and offers many subtle clues throughout the series on doing fractionation-type trancework. the author covers a LOT of ground here and it is a good idea to tread slowly here in order to understand the many parts of his work, which become much easier to understand with practice.my gripes with the series is that the information is presented scattershot. it feels as if the author took a well-written treatise, slammed it into a blender, and chopped and diced it up, serving it out of order. relevant information isn't stored in one place, but rather all over the series. for example, the information on hypnotism and neuroscience is hinted at in an earlier book only to be expounded upon in a later book. careful rewriting would put the information into its proper order for much easier comprehension, and doing so would probably also reduce the number of volumes the author has written.also, as the series grows longer, the author expounds upon subjects in greater detail. having grown fond of the author's original quick & dirty 'here's how it's done' style, i tire of the longer explanations toward the end of the series, which grow longer on opinions, drowning out some important and intriguing facts. i prefer the author to stick to the script, but to each their own.if you're going to buy the books, buy them all. you really do need to read them all to make sense of the information, even though the author insists the books are stand-alone. no, they are not. what i have written above can help you fit the information into its proper order, and from there learning to do hypnotism with only this series is very much possible if you PRACTICE A LOT and follow the instructions the author gives you in the series.4 stars. would be 5, but my gripes are such that i spent an inordinate amount of time rereading the info and mindmapping it in order to make full sense of it. the author writes a LOT, and practical hypnosis requires simple understanding and quick execution, which is defeated by the series' verbosity.i have written one review for all 8 of the author's books. in order to avoid redundancy, i am only going to post my review on the very first book's amazon page and leave this note as a link on the others.

HOW TO HYPNOTIZE ANYONE: CONFESSIONS OF A ROGUE HYPNOTIST contains some useful tidbits of information that might help readers who are interested, as I was, in learning about hypnosis. The tidbits are probably worth 99 cents, so I thank the author and give the book two stars for them. Unfortunately, those tidbits are presented in a rambling, garbled, repetitive, vague, badly punctuated, and ungrammatical text that I therefore find both unappealing and unauthoritative. Some of the characteristics I just listed--vagueness, for example--are used intentionally by hypnotists to facilitate hypnosis (so says the Rogue Hypnotist, anyway), so it's possible that the book only seemed sloppy but is really part of a subtle and sophisticated attempt to hypnotize its readers (into buying the remaining books in the series, perhaps). But I think they probably indicate mere carelessness instead.

I usually don't write customer reviews but once in a while I think a book is worth writing a review about. This book is definitely one of those at its current price (currently I got it at less than a dollar). Now a bit about myself. I am very new to hypnosis and I am usually looking for self-hypnosis material. I have read quite a few books and have tried a little bit of hypnosis on my wife. I try it on myself fairly often. I have had some success with hypnosis to know that it definitely works (although the degree to which it works is not clear to myself yet).Coming to this book, I must say that the writer has condensed a lot of very useful information in a very small space which makes the book very readable. Having read other hypnosis books I can say that the writer has very nicely summarized the material of much denser books with some very useful parts highlighted to ensure the reader knows where to focus their energies on in order to master basic hypnonsis. The author also seems to have a very good command of language which is essential for any good hypnosis session (whether self or hetero hypnosis) and is able to point out exactly what kind of words to use. For e.g. he very clearly demonstrates what kind of words to use in order to fix a person's mind to something and also deconstructs a few classical techniques to show exactly where they are using suggestions. So all in all it is an excellent book in hypnosis and I have gone on and bought the other books by the Rogue hypnotist as well. There is only one very serious question that I have encountered after reading this book which is contrary to what all other books on hypnosis suggest. The doubt is there in my mind because the writer really does seem to know what he is talking about and so I am confused. The author suggests that hypnosis should be used very sparingly "to make the fix and get out" and not to be used very frequently. This is in direct contradiction to what other hypnotists recommend in their books. I hope the Rogue hypnotist reads this and is able to clear the confusion regarding how often hypnosis should be conducted. Also i wish the author could have shed more light on self-hypnosis (so far i have not come across anything related to self-hypnosis in the first half of the book). In summary this book is worth 5 stars since it is very readable and very nicely summarizes the material on hypnosis without losing too much detail. I haven't yet read the complete book and I hope it will address some of the shortcomings in the 2nd half or in future books.

Total garbage, basically just keeps telling you how great its going to be without telling you anything. Stay away.

I am a Master NLP Programmer and a Certified Clinical Hypnotist and I have a little problem with the script shown in the book. The author uses to many negatives. The human brain does not register the word NO. That is the reason behind the terrible twos. So in the scripts shown here, they will work a lot better if you avoid the nos and nots.Always use positive phrases. For example you should neves tell a person in a hypnotic induction, do not listen to anything else except my voice. You can tell the person, the more you listen to my voice, the more intoxicating it becomes. With every single word, all other noises disappear because you only have ears for my voice...So try to avoid at all cost the negative statements and that will makes the hypnotic process a lot smother...

Delirious New York: A Retroactive Manifesto for Manhattan, by Rem Koolhaas

Amazon.com Review

In this fanciful volume, Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, founder of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (O.M.A.), both analyzes and celebrates New York City. By suggesting the city as the site for an infinite variety of human activities and events--both real and imagined--the essence of the metropolitan lifestyle, its "culture of congestion" and its architecture are revealed in a brilliant new light. "Manhattan," Koolhaas writes, "is the 20th century's Rosetta stone . . . occupied by architectural mutations (Central Park, the Skyscraper), utopian fragments (Rockefeller Center, the U.N. Building), and irrational phenomena (Radio City Music Hall)." Filled with fascinating facts, as well as photographs, postcards, maps, watercolors, and drawings, the vibrancy of Koolhaas's poignant exploration of Gotham equals the heady, frenetic energy of the city itself. Anyone who loves New York will want to own this book.

At times amusing, often informational, ever tedious. The author's rambling narrative makes me think he was in quite a "haze" while writing the book. What I found to be the most curious aspect is the condescending and judgemental tone, and how baffled and annoyed the writer seems to be by the history of this highrise city. While I look at the remaining early skyscrapers as wondrous achievements of the day, deploying new technologies, engineering feats and splendid facades, Koolhaas sees them as charades...fakeries...follies. However ruthless or greedy the developers may have been as scions of capitalism, they no doubt enjoyed the challenges and opportunities to develop a whole new building type. Their enthusiasm and bravado is apparent in the shapes and detailing of buildings, from early Wall Street to the old towers overlooking Central Park.Early New Yorkers were surely caught up in the heady atmosphere of 19th and early 20th century western civilization, so why would we sneer at the projects they undertook? By comparison to the decades since, their accomplishments were positively dazzling. Yes, the supergrid planning was unimaginative and highly speculative, if not catastrophic to quality of life (the only huge city in the world where the sidewalk is a garbage collection device), but as an ever ongoing work-in-progress, the city never fails to amaze, perhaps just as easily as it annoys. I appreciated Koolhaas' revelation of historical events, but it revealed little else besides the writer's hauty opinions.

He goes into rigorous detail in describing the evidence for his "manifesto" but without losing the reader. If you have ever read any art theory style writing then this will be understandable. It's not a totally normal style of writing but it's still very interesting and understandable if you can pay attention. One of my favorite reads. There are moments of wonder (did that really happen in New York?), moments of enlightenment, and plenty of humor and irony, and even some heroes and villains (Le Corbusier as the tyrant who seeks to destroy New York, Dali as the out of place European in America). Very enjoyable, I have read this more than once. Highly recommend to anyone interested in architecture, design, or art history (and New York of course).

Fascinating from start to finish. This is a gripping history of the city of New York, tracing its architectural evolution from the Dutch's rational plotting the grid of Manhattan to Coney Island's early extravagance as a showcase for the bizarre to the manical explosion of sky scrapers. Intriguing is the story of Coney Island serving as an incubator for Manhattan's themes and personality of forms. Koolhaas, now a starchitect, wrote this goregous work decades before he would create his own masterpieces of architecture such as the Seattle Library or Casa de Musica. In a word brilliant.

Here's an undergraduate architecture student's perspective: I really enjoyed this book! It's not difficult to get into but be prepared to venture into some pretty fantastical theories about New York. I couldn't help but think that some of the explanations and narrative were a bit forced to fit into some very memorable lines and titles. Just go with it though and you'll be glad you did; it's a captivating interpretation of New York that is certainly at least as valuable as whatever you'll find in a history book.

This classic is a must read for every architect, urbanist and New York aficionado. Although written may years ago, the essence of the city, which Koolhaas correctly sensed and wrote on its pages, make it one of the most quoted and takled about books about the urbanism and architecture of this unique city.

An insightful and original history of the coming into being of Manhattan, New York as a metropolis, by a great writer and (now) internationally revered Architect. Reading this, as an Architect, almost four decades after this has been put together for the first time, and being somewhat familiar with some of the works of the office he started (OMA), makes its' reading not without expectations in regards to learning about the practical applications of the lessons learned here. And to fast-forward to a tentative conclusion; these kind of expectations are not full-filled. The book, as a study is an exploration first and foremost; anything beyond is (and was) future, which we can now 'measure' or compare against actual production (of the author as Architect). The book itself then and its' structure; it starts off with a chapter on Coney Island, as being the laboratory for Manhattan; if one can make it through this first chapter, one is well positioned for the next chapters dealing with Manhattan's development, until the last one, where the author shifts gears suddenly, to get into the heads of two European celebrities of the Art & Architecture community, and basically finishes off the 'Manhattanism' process/period described in the previous chapters, thru the tales and eyes of these two. In terms of reading, a somewhat discontinuous experience, and asking the reader (once more), to find his/her bearing on a new 'platform' of thought(s) / thinking, this time centered around a newly introduced idea of a so-called 'Paranoia-Critical-Method', and the aspects of Paranoia itself. It is not quite clear why this shift is needed in view of the preceding chapters and history, and does not contribute to its core story, imho. The book is an intellectual and theoretical approach to Planning and Architectural history, where an objectivity has been maintained most of the time, albeit one cannot miss the at times sarcastic/sceptical/comical tones, when describing rather bizarre moments and ideas in the history of Manhattan. Almost every paragraph, headed by a short keyword of its content/subject, is concluded with a transcendental thought, a 'one-liner' providing a philosophical condensation of the evolving step in the process, which in themselves are the little pearls the writer adds on a string (of the story-line).One of the main values of the approach is that it puts Architecture, Planning and Design in an historical context that's including cultural, socio- and economic forces, as much, and most of the time, more than the Architecture, Planning and Design itself. What it tries to convey is a sense of processes beyond any one's control, where the Architect, Engineer and Designer are merely the ones providing the means to the forces that are occurring and shaping the processes. Their 'ideas' appear as makeshift, when seen against a 'bigger picture' background, their particular 'Architectural' approach or style more or less irrelevant. The book does include at the end, design proposals for Manhattan by the author / Architect around the time of writing / conception of the book (mid-seventies), that are presented as visual illustrations of the principles discovered and described in the book. However, partly due to the scale of the graphics included (small singular conceptual 3D images) and in part due to a listing of programmatic characteristics that one has been inundated with already a lot in the book, it doesn't really add to the story-line, imho. It seems that what one would expect, based on knowing what we know now in regards to the author and his career, that is a summarizing and a valuation of the principles in terms of how they would be made to guide one in projects for the future, is a missing stepping stone. As such, the shown projects in a way act more as a 'smoke-screen' than an unveiling of a future 'manifesto' (or set of rules), since it is not clear what is 'different' than what one has come to see before, nor what value, rejection or acceptance, is placed upon it. The Architect did not come out and valuate what the author has distilled. Perhaps that had not happened to the point of conclusion yet, but instead what is presented seems to represent a phase of mesmerizing and fascination with the subject. As such, the Architect and the subsequent work of the office remains a subject of study for me. One has to start somewhere, and this is most likely an obligatory starting point.

Liked: clear and easy to read modern idioms in translation. Disliked: splitting authors between 3 volumes.

I used all three in this series for a college course and I'd highly recommend them. The translations aren't overly clunky and they were easy to understand.

Right book and came on time

perfect study

For many years when I taught two or three of the plays in this volume, I used an edition which is now out of print. Unfortunately, many of the translations are done in a kind of pseudo-Shakespearean, which means that the translations are denser than they need to be. The translations in this edition are very readable and effective for classroom use. A nice job translating and editing.

Read this for my Text & Ideas class at NYU. The plays themselves are exciting and I actually liked how the plot developed. But make sure to supplement this with Sparknotes or whatever internet thing there is since it helps a lot! Greek tragedies are one of my favorite.

Very tragically written - a little much for me at times haha

Joseph Peterson did an excellent job with The Lesser Key of Solomon. The illustrations in the book are very well drawn. This is without question the most accurate version of the Lemegeton. The manuscripts Peterson used are far more reliable than others that have been used previously. Another bonus about this book is whereas Mitch Hensons Lemegeton left out the 5th book Ars Notoria, Peterson includes it in his version. One thing i should clarify that some people misunderstand is the difference between the Mathers/Crowley "Lesser Key" and Joseph Petersons "Lesser Key" is this, The Mathers/Crowley version is only the first book "Goetia" with this you are getting that plus 4 other books as well Ars Theurgia, Ars Paulina, Ars Armadel, Ars Notoria respectively. The Bottom line is this, if you want the most accurate and complete Lemegeton available packed with beautiful illustrations and material that will keep you pouring over the pages again and again, then go with Petersons version. This will be a book that you will treasure for a lifetime.

Most of the reviews I've read for this book were about the softcover edition, however I purchased the hardcover version. First a few words on the physical book. It is green in color, with a glossy exterior (not a dust jacket which it did not come with,) and black lettering. The book's dimensions are 10 5/16 inches tall, by 7 1/16 inches wide, by 14/16 inch thick. The book feels and appears to be well made, but only time will tell on that point. Now about the book's contents. This book is most definitely not for beginners. If you have no training in evocation whatsoever, neither possess nor have read any of the many books or video courses that teach beginners this art, nor have any occult experience at all, then this book is most definitely not for you. In fact, for beginners this book can be quite dangerous especially if you attempt to follow the directions for evocation presented in the text itself. If you have experience with evocation, have received training in this art, or have read any of the many books or watched any of the numerous videos about evocation that are available, it is difficult to imagine that you have not heard of the Goetia and perhaps even the Lemegeton of which the Goetia is one part so I will proceed with my review with this assumption in mind.I purchased this book to replace a softcover Goetia that has seen better times. I once had a copy of the full Lemegeton but it was lost in a move long ago. I was surprised at the completeness of this edition. Especially good were the appendices which contained information I have seen nowhere else. One major difference between this edition and my old softcover one is that the Goetic seals are not in the same double circle with the name in between like you see in the Mathers/Crowley version. The introduction explains that this was an innovation of Crowley that he likely borrowed from another book which used a similar approach. If you really like the double circle version of the seals keep that in mind. Most practitioners draw their own seals for actual use so if you like the circles and are familiar with them you can always add them at that stage. Strangely in my own work I never drew the circles at all and so the ones in the book look more like what I use. If you are looking for a complete, well resourced, and quality Lemegeton with appendices containing excellent extended material, then I recommend this edition, especially the hardcover one I purchased.

Hands down the best translation, complete with footnotes this is most treasured and favorite text and practitioners dream. although I don't deal too much with the various dukes and earls, it does contain some of my favorite demons to work with, its also list the hr of the day and night to summon each, also on page 142 great info on djinns and the various hrs to work with the elemental energies governing those elements. I appreciate this book now more or should I say, have more respect than I did in my 20's when I was quite reckless with my magik and was taught some powerful lessons by these demons on being respectful, now 20 years later as I once again revisit its always one of my favorite magikal text and I love the hardcover. the most complete work on the Lesser Keys of Solomon, if your going to pick up any edition this should be your first choice.

Love his work. Both this book and his 6th and 7th Books of Moses are a must have!

This book is absolutely phenomenal it is indeed full of a lot of knowledge wisdom and guidance and it goes into great detail on the evocation of spirits you really need to read this book it is guaranteed to bring Spirits forth.I purchase the hardcover and I am very glad I did great book full of sigils seals worth every penny
