The SQL tutorial portion is A+ spot on but as the book reaches many of the other heavier topics it gets very light to the point of you could google search and get the info from just the results page alone. However still would recommend to a complete beginner in dbm for the intermediate SQL user.... meh not so much

Not really for learning great SQL querey ninja work. Use Codecademy.com . BUT buy this book to better understand SQL and Relational Databases.

Gives you a good foundation in all aspects of SQL.

I'm 37 years old and just finished this book. It's one of many that I have started over the last 16 months, but the only one I have finished.I was inspired to read the book after listening to an audio about a father who watched his son's love for baseball, be cut short as he tried out for the High School team and was cut. This sent the son on the "normal" teenage path of bad choices, friends who were bad influences, and ultimately a party that changed his son's life.The father came home from a family outing that the young man, who was 14 at the time, decided not to go on. What he found once he got home, was the remains and evidence of what had been a wild party. With fire in his eyes, and not knowing what to do, he chased his son to his room, bent him over his knee and spanked him. Further discussion came with the price of not knowing what further consequences would be, but for the immediate future, he was grounded. Shortly after this experience, the father came across this book. The new consequence would be, his son could be ungrounded once he read the book and wrote a report about what he had learned from the book, not just a report about what the book was about. The young man has since started his own free enterprise business, leads others in the fight of free enterprise education, and continues to grow and inspire others his own age and is only 18.My oldest son is now 14 and he excels in school. He should only be in 8th grade, but is dual enrolled in both High School and College as a freshman, taking a handful of sophomore classes. He also has his own business as a subcontractor doing miscellaneous jobs to earn money. Because school comes so easy for him, he doesn't push himself to his limits or full potential. His spare time and all of his money is drowned in video games and he knows everything there is to know about the Zelda Universe.He recently asked my wife and I if he could skip a couple days of school to buy the newest game system and the newest Zelda game that came out the same day. Neither of us liked the idea, but we also knew how hard he had worked to save up the money to achieve his goal. At that point I made a deal with him. He could have the 2 days off of school if he agreed to read this book and write a 2 page report of what he learned from the book.I gave him this challenge a month ago, 02/02/17. My wife, in her infinite wisdom, 2 weeks later, challenged me too read and finish the book before he did. She thought it would be a good idea for me to be able to discuss what I'd learned from the book with him once we were both done reading it. He finished late last night, I finished this morning 03/01/17. I look forward to reading his report and discussing my goals and the hard things I plan on accomplishing this year. My hard things include significant weight loss, tripling my income, and taking my entire family (I'm a sole provider of a family of 9) on a 2 week long tropical getaway. 2017 will be my best year!

My 13yo dd grabbed this up before my 15yo ds could (I bought it for him), and she has been challenging herself to make and keep routines, be more helpful, and even wants to start a non-profit helping the homeless now! She has all kinds of great ideas. I haven't read the book yet myself, but just judging by her response, I am impressed!

This is a book that can change every teenagers life. The message that God has a plan for your life and it starts now, not when you turn 21, is so inspirational to a young person who wants more. This message can plant a seed in your heart that grows into a deep belief that God has bigger ,greater plans for you when you trust Him.

They say some good things in this book, but I wasn't looking for the sole reason to do something "hard" is for God. I am not taking away the value of doing something for God or believing, but I feel that pushing the connection with God could have been in another book. I didn't understand the authors background ahead of time - my fault. This is not a book my children will connect to. It would be great for a church youth group though.

I bought this book for my daughter and granddaughter. It is written by two homeschooling brothers who discovered a secret most teens are missing-that they are capable of doing way more than we give them credit for! A must read for all youth groups and middle to high school kids! Our daughter is a high school sophomore and read this and gave her class a book talk on it-very important stuff here. Makes a wonderful gift for teens, especially those who are leaders.

Purchased this book for my 15 year old son for Christmas. He doesn’t “love” to read but we make it a priority as a family. He came to me yesterday and said “mom this book is a page turner!” He is inspired, motivated, and has enjoyed reading. I would highly recommend!

We read this in our youth group and it's an incredible read! Really inspired many of our youth and transformed their lives! We bought theses two copies for our kids as a summer reading project. They are really enjoying their read of them! Incredible for teens to help them believe they can do way more than society expects of them!

We got this series for our 12 year old daughter, because she loves cats. She can not keep her hands of these books! And to tell you this is our child, who disliked to read! She goes to bed, and just before I turn in, I peek into her room, only to find her reading her Warriors books with a flashlight.She loved all of the new cat characters as well as clans, introduced in this series. This is the third series we HAD to get for her, because she was bugging us, we needed to buy these for her, she was on the last pages of her last book.She also assigns the charters from the Warriors book to our family members, herself included.I hope Erin Hunter never stops writing these![...]. No, I don't get any money, but it will let me know, I am not wasting my time writing them :-)

My 11 year old granddaughter is a huge fan of the Warriors series. I've bought every collection for her and she reads them quickly. This series helped convert her from a game addict to an avid reader! She no longer brings her games when she visits, and she always has a book or two with her. I love to hear the enthusiasm in her voice when she relates the stories of the clans of cats in the Warriors series. When she isn't reading the books, she's sketching the characters. I've only read two of the books from the series, but I found them to be very creative and engaging. I fully understand why she is hooked. It has been so nice to see this change in her, and I'll gladly continue buying the books as long as Erin Hunter keeps publishing them!

My 10 year old son spent all of the money he received for his year-end straight 'A' report card to buy all of the Warriors' sets. He loves them! I, too, am reading them (52 years old and much more emotional...I cry at least once a book). He has started sharing his Warriors' books with classmates and the books are receiving high ratings from them, as well. I have recommended the Survivor series (dogs) to a classmate's mom who was having trouble getting her son to read (their 5th grade class is required to read a half hour each week day and one weekend day).These books grab your attention and keep it, to the point of not wanting to put them down. We even think of our cats differently now :-).Authors, Thank you so much for sharing your talents! We would love to see a movie or TV series, as well.All of the books sets that were ordered arrived on time (even the pre-ordered ones) and in new condition. VERY satisfied with the entire experience.

My daughter bought this when she was reading Eclipse from The Power of Three, so it took her about a month and a half to get to these books. When she finally got to the problem, it was too late to return the set. On the cover of The Last Hope, on the bottom front is a 1 inch tear. It's a great series and always keeps her interested, but that one tear was her only problem (it was there when they wrapped it in plastic.) If she could give 4 1/2 stars, she would.

My 11 year old daughter is in love with all things Warriors! I am so thankful for this series because it has really gotten her into reading! I love them because they are real stories with happiness, romance, jealousy, politics, as well as sadness. She laughs and she cries. Oh and she already loves CATS so this was purrfect for her!

My son is OBSESSED with these books. He will read a book a day, sometimes more and begs me to buy the next set. Going from being a child I had to force to read for 30 min a day (or read to him) to this is absolutely amazing!As a parent, I like that the books are easy reading, and have elementary level plots. I know my son has been in tears a few times when characters were killed off, but none of the scenes are overly dramatic or violent. Just a sensitive kiddo.We will be buying this series until we have acquired them all.

My daughter loves, loves, loves this series. Read 30+ books in the Warriors series from the library over the past several years & my daughter continues to love them so much she wanted to own them. So we now own all 4 series plus all the special editions. It's fantasy. It's relationships. It's drama. It's humor. It's love. It's loss. It's cruelty. It's kindness. It's basic real life but with cats. So it's not only entertaining, it's educational.

My daughter wasn't the fondest of reading but she liked animals. I figured this would maybe jog her interest and I was relieved to find out that I was right. She couldn't put these down once she got started. It relieved me as a parent because I believe literacy is so important. The key is finding a topic or subject, a theme that can peek the interest of your child. This was that for my daughter.

As a working engineer with high power RF for nearly 20 years, I found David Pozar's book to be one of the best references to microwave engineering that is available. There are many professional books available which cover the same topics, but they lack a sufficient mathematical electricity & magnetism explanation in comparison. One of the things I found is that I had to refresh myself on the math, which is a good thing, in order to complete the problems at end of every chapter. I recently met a microwave communications engineer who had a class taught by David Pozar and he said it was difficult since Pozar is demanding, but enjoyed the class. Well, this attitude is reflected in this book by treating most topics very quantitatively.I would highly recommend Microwave Engineering to all mobile communications, RF, radar systems and electronic warfare engineers. And of course to all graduate electrical engineering students.With this book, I also recommend as a complement RF Design Guide: Systems, Circuits, and EquationsThe only negative I can say is about cost, but there are several used sources available and for this type of reference the new cost can be justified if you work in this field.

I needed a book for practical reference. This book is well organized and decently illustrates the concepts in a non-superfluous manner. This has all the basic material you would learn in a microwave course, but you would need additional references for more advanced topics.

This textbook is very mathematical and dense, and I do not recommend it for somebody who is new to the subject. This text is ideal for somebody who understands the basics of microwave design, and it will help make sense of technical papers on the topic.

Overall, I found Pozar's book to be a good handbook on pracical applications of microwave engineering. However, as one who has not been a design engineer in years, the long drawn out mathematical proofs of the theories behind the applications made for a sometimes tedious read. This would have been a great text for me right out of college, but in my current position I don't need to understand the theory to the depth that Pozar often goes into. The purists and hardcore design guys might say I've devolved into a mathematical whimp, but for my needs I like overviews.

This book is pretty well written and really help you understand the materials better. This book is pretty well organized and very easy to follow

A Darker Shade of Magic, of course! I was drawn to this book because 1) it's been super popular among the Instagram reader community, and 2) there is not one, but four Londons (mega points for creativity, Schwab).What did I like about this book? Well, the whole premise was highly original. Kell, the main character, can travel between 4 Londons—White London, Red London, Black London, and Grey London. Each London has a different relationship with magic, whether they embrace it, worship it, kill for it, or don't believe in it (not in that order). But Kell and one other character are the only ones able to travel between the Londons, which means they are messengers and ambassadors for the leaders (which leads to some interesting problems).I also liked that the book wasn't all about romance—there was very little. Lila and Kell worked as a team. The book also dealt with brotherly relationships and caring for family, even if they are not your blood relatives. It also tackled the age-old question of "what do you do if you come into a lot of power, but it's an evil power," which naturally includes character motive investigation, willpower, and self discovery.However, as with many hyped books, this one fell a little short of my expectations (hence, 3.5 stars). What went wrong? Let me share:1) Dialogue – I didn't feel like it flowed naturally and was a tad cliche.2) The Strong/Independent Female Main Character Trope – Lila Bard is a cool character, but I'm just a little tired of the whole tough girl characters who don't need a man or anyone else and don't embrace their uniquely feminine strengths. Why does a girl have to act like a man to get attention in the literary community? Why can't she be feminine and strong? *steps off soapbox*3) Character/plot originality – Although the premise was unique, much of it felt like other YA lit fantasy that I had read before and that was better executed (e.g., Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows and the Grisha trilogy).4) World building – I wanted more details. I can never have too much solid world building, and I think it's essential for fantasy to connect with the reader.Overall, a fun read, but not quite a 4-star rating.

This book had so much potential. There's a lot to like but it just didn't quite deliver.PROS- V.E. Schwab has a really nice writing style. It flows effortlessly and you can fly through the pages. Her descriptions paint a solid picture.- The world building is well done. I liked the different Londons and their back stories were interesting. There were plenty of scenes I enjoyed quite a bit.- The Blood Magic/Elemental powers are cool.CONS- The 2 main characters Kell & Lila are both very clichè and uninteresting. Lila was actually very annoying most of the time. She was being very immature at times despite the situation being very serious. She's made out to be a strong female character, which I like, but she always needs to be saved by Kell. Kell complains a lot for no reason. He's also not always honest when he should be.- The Pacing was a little too slow for me at times. There weren't enough epic moments or tense situations to keep me very interested. Once I got more than half way through, I wanted it to just end.- I felt like the Author was very close to blowing me away but she never really did. I don't want to continue the series.I read Six of Crows right before this and that impressed me in every way that this book didn't.

It wasn't bad. I listed to the audio book and found the narrator, Steven Crossley, trying too hard to be Jim Dale and not being successful. The voices he did were kind of annoying, and he overacted sometimes. Lila was already an annoying character, as someone else mentioned in their review, and the voice he did made her even more so. As for the story itself, it's good. Nothing spectacular. It took a while for me to get into it. It was nothing that I haven't read yet. 'His Dark Materials' or the 'City and the City' have done this concept first and are much more engaging. Maybe if I was still a teenager, when I discovered the wonderful world of fantasy, I would have been more engaged, but I have read so many other works similar to this, that I think I will recommend other books before I read this one. The writing is good, the world building is complete, and the story is told well, it's just not really original and Lila is an annoying character. And if you do choose to read this, READ it, don't listen to the audio book!

The first half of the book gives a concise and clear explanation of the basics of Java 8 Functional programming. However, the author appears to have rushed through the 2nd half, especially in design patterns and concurrency, with sections of in-cohesive explanations of patchy code sections of otherwise interesting examples. It would have been OK if complete samples code is included in the code-download site, but some of the more interesting samples are completely missing from the downloaded zip files. For example, the Domain Specific Language from chapter 8 and the Non-block IO Chat program from chapter 9 are no where to be found.

Awesome book if you have no functional programming background. It covers everything from lambda expressions, streams, collectors, and concurrency in an understandable, practical way.If you are new to Java functional programming be sure to check out the RxJava library as well. It provides an even more robust approach to chaining higher order functions than Streams.

Good book. Helpful to understand it. Not massively thick either so you can skim through it to bits you'd find useful.

I'd already been dipping my toes in the water with lambdas and wanted to broaden my knowledge of the new Java 8 features. This book gets to the point quickly and provides good takeaway advice for when and how to leverage them. On top of that, the author does a good job relating the features to each other so the topics build upon each other and earlier concepts get reinforced.
