Other reviewers did mention that they found the book to be ‘preachy’, but I took that to mean the author had a superior tone in the prose. It’s not that, however: the implication is that a ‘smart stepdad’ is one who acts according to the Christian faith, and by extension anyone else - even if they simply belong to a different religion- is not a ‘smart stepdad’.I did manage to power through to the end and did find much of the actual advice to be helpful, but I generally felt that the author, who constantly quoted scripture and actively discouraged cohabitation or sex before marriage, even with couples going through it all a second time, seemed to be talking to someone else entirely, like I wasn’t the target audience and was just eavesdropping on someone else’s conversation, rather than having one with the author myself.I’m not positive, but I’m pretty sure that’s not what you want in a book. Limiting your readership so drastically seems like a bad idea, too. If you belong to a different faith or eschew religion altogether you should probably keep looking.

If you try to create a new marriage as well as blend a family without first researching how you are probably doomed to fail. Ron's book not only made me think of answers to problems I hadn't thought of but also questions I never entertained. If your new family is important then do all you can to help it succeed. This is a good place to start.

I bought this for my husband who’s a brand new dad to a 15 year old girl! He says it’s realky a great book and he’s appreciated the insight and finds it super helpful! Good for all the step dads out there wanting to be the best they can be! This book goes over everything from being appropriate to being supportive and everything in between.

The book is well written and takes the time to lay everything out while utilizing real life scenarios stepdads will definitely encounter.Some reviewers complained the book was too religious. I'm not a religious person but I am okay with others believing what they want to. With that being said, the Christian references are not overbearing and are sparingly used. Most of which can easily be circumvented by just skipping to the next paragraph.I immediately implemented some of the recommended areas and techniques that would make an immediate and helpful impact in my step family household. In our family, this books recommendations were well received and have put our family in a better position than it was while on a path were success is much more attainable.I'd recommend this book to any step-father or step-dad to be.

The book is an easy read. I've learned a great deal on how to handle certain situations, while keeping down conflicts. I even sent a copy to my daughter and her new husband. You will not go wrong purchasing this book. I think it's a MUST for "Blended" Families.

Many great points about how to step-parent for fathers. Even after reading the whole book I like to read up sections once in a while as a refresher.

Lot's of great information for "blended families". He hits all the right issues to deal with. Other books were very superficial but this one dives in to all the different problems faced by step dads. Not all will apply to your particular situation of course but there will be plenty that will. I highly recommend it..

Easy to read. Makes understanding health behavior theories easy.

After taking several health behavior classes focused on theory, I would say this is the worst book I've ever read on health behavior theory. It's a very hard read to get through because it's not well written, it does not mesh with the current literature on all theories, and it over-emphasizes some very odd examples. Application is important, but by the 5th example, it's redundant. If this is for a class, rent it, do NOT buy it. Trust me, you will never use it again. If this is for your own information on behavior health theories, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. It will not be helpful for you, and I would definitely argue how it presents at least one of the theories it includes.

Easily one of the worst textbooks I have ever read. The author has no idea how to write clearly or succinctly. This entire book could probably be summed up in 3-4 chapters if he wasn't going on and on about nothing. Please, don't buy this book unless you're required to.

good book for public health people! very useful

This is my first review on textbooks. There are just so many textbooks you need to buy as a grad student, but only so few one might actually enjoy while reading/making notes. This is one of those few for me. Very easy to read and follow. I like how authors always had multiple examples to demonstrate how theories and concepts can be applied in each of the chapters. Good textbook!

It is also a good primer before reading more specialized books. It helped me get a grasp on things before I started studying the differences between VMWare and Hyper-V.

If you want Windows networking info, then this book is probably fine. But if you're wanting to learn Unix, Linux, etc., then not so much. The book sort of pretends to cover all flavors, but in actuality, very little info is here for anything other than Windows. Although there are chapters and specific cases citing Windows, nearly all the generic information is also about Windows ONLY.

First class all-in-one book about networking principles.However, buyers planning to set up a small Windows peer-to-peer or home wireless network should probably look elsewhere.The focus of this book is on larger switched Ethernet networks in a business or academic setting.

If you feel overwhelmed by the subject of networking and don't know where to start, this is not a bad place. The nine mini-books contained in this all-in-one do a pretty good job of introducing the various subtopics in this very broad field. Some subjects are covered in more depth than others. I especially appreciated the chapter on Network Standards and Protocols and the mini-book on TCP/IP and the Internet. Some of the troubleshooting tips I thought were pretty lame.I am not generally one to buy dummies books. I don't like the way they tend to waste my time with silly jokes. Nonetheless, this book has been useful to give a gentle introduction to a complex and highly technical subject area. Now I know enough of the basics and terminology to proceed elsewhere with my studies. This book is not a keeper for me.

My enthusiasm for Doug Lowe goes back many years, when I used his manuals as an IBM mainframe programmer. The style of this book is easy to read, with some geek humor. Some study of the book's organization produces facility in finding answers to my questions. There is also a website for this particular book that provides additional and timely information.

My job which deals with training operators, engineers, and technicians on DCS equipment and networking of other systems to them, and being able to tie the system to HMI's which are laptop and desktop PC's with windows server 8 and windows 7 thorugh networking applications.This I highly recommend for the beginner networker who wants to know the "Straight up" on the "Whole 9 yards" of networks. I can't say enough about the material and it's clarity on ALL the topics!!

Ordered this book as a gift for a climber. The photos are gorgeous and I highly recommend the book itself. However, it arrived in less-than-ideal shape. It wasn't packaged particularly carefully and the dust cover came dinged, marked, and crumpled in places. If it's going to be a coffee table book out for display--and you will definitely want it to be out--it really needs to be in pristine condition so I'd consider tracking this one down at your local bookstore unless you're willing to gamble with the after-effects of shipping. Worth a little extra effort and cost for a beautiful and fascinating book.

Another awesome job!!! Slater could not read, and Amoy was an attorney in her father’s law firm. Slater was a delivery guy who delivered packages to the firm that Amoy worked at. Slater did not who he was, due to his mom. Slater had eyes for Amoy and did not want to give up being with her. Slater was a sexy young man, which Amoy liked also even though they came from different worlds. Can a relationship last from people that are unequally yoked?

This book was funny, exciting & encouraging .... I loved how money wasn't an issue in this case & how it encouraged being true w/your feelings.I loved how it gave the advice of just put God first.

I love the way Amoy's priorities changed the moment she started praying and letting go of her own selfish desires. Slater was very grateful, determined, humble and understood what he lacks and found ways to change his life once he admitted his situation.

Words cannot express how much I've fallen in love with all the characters of Brenda Barrett. She intertwine her characters so all can get to know them. I truly recommend all her books. They are so good and outstanding.

I enjoyed reading all 4 parts of The Scarlett Series. It is good reading about the Scarlett Family tradition, family history, etc. can't wait for part 5,6. Please put them out as soon as you can
