I had this book as a child so I wanted to share it with my 3 year old. We have had fun reading it, although I'd forgotten that all the cats eat each other in the end. He didn't seem bothered by it, which just goes to show that toddlers are ruthless. This will probably not go into frequent rotation here simply because it doesn't grab his attention the way the newer books with more colorful illustrations and engaging stories do. But I'm glad we have it anyway, it was a fun memory for me to revisit with him.

Great classic about a husband and wife team that decide they need a cat in their lives because, they are lonely without children. So the husband sets out to get one cat for the house. In typical man-style he returns with many many more cats then they need. Specifically, he returns with hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats. They decide they can't support them all chaos pursues. Illustrations are very cute and memorable. Hoping it will allow my toddler to understand the increasing quantities of larger numbers. Fingers crossed. lol

I love this weirdo book. The story, the type, the illustrations. All of it combine to make a sort of dreamlike, surreal and indulgent kind of story and feeds my subconscious need to see millions and trillions and billions of cats all grouped together.

Shantideva is one ogpf my favorite Buddhist philosophers. His Way of the Bodhisattva is a life-changing book. Further, Pema Chodron's commentary on this book is incisive, clear, and has helped me more than any other source to understand Shantideva and put his work in a modern context.So why does this book get one star in my review? Because this is an exact republication of Chodron's No Time to Lose. It's not an updated version either, or Chodron revisiting Shantideva with further insights. Page by page, character by character, this is the identical book. They changed the title and cover, but make no mention of what they did. When they do something like this, it screws those of us who have come to trust Chodron’s valuable teachings, confident that her future works will be worth a read.

I love this book. It is already making a difference in my daily life as I apply Chodron's writings to my lived experience. This is not one of her newer texts, yet I think it's worth reaching back in time and reading it if you haven't done so already. Excellent wisdom written with genuine compassion and humility - inspiring and instructional. A great book.

Great book in every way. Does not include Chapter 9 which she explains, Recommend the book by His Holiness the Dalai Lama on just Chapter 9.

I came across this book when i read an excerpt fro it in a collection of Buddhist works. I had been going through some tough personal issues, mostly of my own doing. I happened to read an excerpt on a whim and found it fascinating and really on target with what I had been dealing with. From there I decided to purchase the entire book and, although I havent quite finished yet (as I find myself stopping to reflect quite a bit), this book has taught me a new way to think about life and how to deal with the "restless mind" and "habitual thought patterns". This book can be very useful to anyone interested in discovering some of the mysteries of the mind. Highly recommended!

Pema Chodron hardly needs my endorsement, but this is - once again - a very readable and felt book. As a commentary on Santideva's Bodhisattvacharyavatara it is as much a great introduction to that classic work as a look into Pema Chodron's understanding of the path and bodhicitta in particular.

Written in clear, concise language, Ani Pema Chodron's commentary on the Bodhicharyavatara (The Way of the Bodhisattva) by Santideva is very helpful for those of us who value this text but wish to go deeper in our understanding.

I have enjoyed this book each time I read it. Pema is a wonderful teacher. Get a copy you will not be sorry.

One of the worst text books I've read to date. Super confusing to understand as the author references synonymous notations back and forth to confuse the reader. His examples and explanations are hard to follow and understand. This could have been written so much easier to understand, even I could have written it better. Unfortunately I'm stuck using this book for my class, but thank God my professors lectures explain the material way more clearly for me to understand because reading this book alone would leave me lost.

Well... the text is pretty straightforward. It markets itself particularly to the social sciences, but in reality it is nothing more than an introductory statistics text. Nonetheless, it is very clearly written and covers most of the basics you need to do any kind of research (multiple regressions, ANOVA, basic t,z, and F-tests, etc.). This is by no means a theoretical textbook: if you want to learn about distribution theory and the proofs behind the tests look elsewhere. If you want a quick introduction and reference to the different methods and tests with all the assumptions and potential pitfalls then this text is perfect.

I personally didn't find this textbook's explanations or presentation of material entirely intuitive, especially for anybody who hadn't already been exposed to statistics. It serves a purpose just fine, but I think some of the topics could have benefited from clearer conceptual explanations. I was assigned it in a first-year PhD class, and found myself rereading a previous textbook when I couldn't remember certain ideas.

Exercises in this "international edition" are not the same to those of the American one. The text is the same, though.

the description is OK, but unfortunately they annoyingly have the chapter sub-subsections and examples all in one line, and their way of numbering sections and examples makes it much harder to quickly visibly scan through and find the specific example the professor is discussing in class (i.e. for chapter 5, you have subsection 5.1 which may contain examples 5.1, 5.2, and 5.3, then subsection 5.2 would have examples 5.4 and 5.5 etc, instead of more logically numbering them as subsection 5.1 example 5.1a, 5.1b, 5.1c, etc). This meant I was scrambling many times to get to the section the professor was actually discussing after accidentally winding up in the example instead of subsection (on those small classroom desks that are already too small for just my laptop, this was extremely annoying). The formatting is also problematic for me as a dyslexic in several ways. The information presented (once you get to it) is reasonably well-written but not so outstandingly better done than other textbooks that were formatted more logically to raise the rating (I would give this textbook a 2 star for the formatting issues alone, the quality of the actual instruction earned it an additional star from me).

I needed this book for HW assignments for a class I am taking. Although it may be to make the material more digestible, I have to say the book does a poor job of explaining concepts and makes it more confusing without prior knowledge. Also a lot of the exercises are vague and odd imo.

This handbook provides the "How-To" for many of the questions that arise through the divorce process. From identifying if you are ready for divorce to navigating the complexities of this emotional time, I highly recommend this book! I especially appreciated the authors hints that are sprinkled throughout. This book is easy to digest and leaves you feeling knowledgeable and prepared.

A Better, Not Bitter Divorce is an important resource for folks who are considering, or experiencing, divorce. Complex material is presented in clear, easy to understand language and format. Case examples are used effectively to illustrate and clarify. Highlighted "Better" nuggets of information speak to the heart of an issue. This is a straightforward discussion of the details of divorce. The heart of the book is the warmth and empathy that is so apparent in Ms. Mann's voice, especially as she discusses the emotional divorce. I understand how easy it is to become overwhelmed by the divorce process. Ms. Mann emphasizes the importance of self-care and healing, and she provides helpful suggestions for both. A very well-organized book; everything from letting go to all the practical details of doing so. The information on parenting and children and things that can’t be left out of an agreement are excellent. I especially like the “Better” and “Bitter” hints that are throughout the book. They’re fun (well, not that divorce is ‘fun’) little tidbits that make you think, “Oh… interesting!” They make a lot of sense. It’s clear that the author is writing from professional AND personal experiences. The beginning of each chapter even has a nice inspirational quote (I like those kind of things). Honestly, this book would be good for ANYONE to read because statistically EVERYONE knows someone going through a divorce! Lots of great insight. It’s an inexpensive great read! :)

For anyone who has wondered, 'Will I ever survive this?', "A Better, Not Bitter Divorce" will light a new and hopeful path forward.How I wish I had had BJ's book when I split up with my husband years ago. So much of my uncertainty, stress, and misery could have been alleviated. BJ's advice ̶ so practical and empathic ̶ would have eased my way. The SQL tutorial portion is A+ spot on but as the book reaches many of the other heavier topics it gets very light to the point of you could google search and get the info from just the results page alone. However still would recommend to a complete beginner in dbm for the intermediate SQL user.... meh not so much

Not really for learning great SQL querey ninja work. Use Codecademy.com . BUT buy this book to better understand SQL and Relational Databases.

Gives you a good foundation in all aspects of SQL.

Trying to work on something you learned a number of years ago but don’t use every day doesn’t work. Having a quick and easy reference that you can navigate does work. Thanks!

Many people fail to push themselves and therefore fail to accomplish much of anything in their lives. By nipping this in the bud during the teenage years, a person could live a much more lively life.While this book is written for teenagers, I think just about anyone could glean some inspiration and motivation from it. I'm 37 years old and just finished this book. It's one of many that I have started over the last 16 months, but the only one I have finished.I was inspired to read the book after listening to an audio about a father who watched his son's love for baseball, be cut short as he tried out for the High School team and was cut. This sent the son on the "normal" teenage path of bad choices, friends who were bad influences, and ultimately a party that changed his son's life.The father came home from a family outing that the young man, who was 14 at the time, decided not to go on. What he found once he got home, was the remains and evidence of what had been a wild party. With fire in his eyes, and not knowing what to do, he chased his son to his room, bent him over his knee and spanked him. Further discussion came with the price of not knowing what further consequences would be, but for the immediate future, he was grounded. Shortly after this experience, the father came across this book. The new consequence would be, his son could be ungrounded once he read the book and wrote a report about what he had learned from the book, not just a report about what the book was about. The young man has since started his own free enterprise business, leads others in the fight of free enterprise education, and continues to grow and inspire others his own age and is only 18.My oldest son is now 14 and he excels in school. He should only be in 8th grade, but is dual enrolled in both High School and College as a freshman, taking a handful of sophomore classes. He also has his own business as a subcontractor doing miscellaneous jobs to earn money. Because school comes so easy for him, he doesn't push himself to his limits or full potential. His spare time and all of his money is drowned in video games and he knows everything there is to know about the Zelda Universe.He recently asked my wife and I if he could skip a couple days of school to buy the newest game system and the newest Zelda game that came out the same day. Neither of us liked the idea, but we also knew how hard he had worked to save up the money to achieve his goal. At that point I made a deal with him. He could have the 2 days off of school if he agreed to read this book and write a 2 page report of what he learned from the book.I gave him this challenge a month ago, 02/02/17. My wife, in her infinite wisdom, 2 weeks later, challenged me too read and finish the book before he did. She thought it would be a good idea for me to be able to discuss what I'd learned from the book with him once we were both done reading it. He finished late last night, I finished this morning 03/01/17. I look forward to reading his report and discussing my goals and the hard things I plan on accomplishing this year. My hard things include significant weight loss, tripling my income, and taking my entire family (I'm a sole provider of a family of 9) on a 2 week long tropical getaway. 2017 will be my best year!

My 13yo dd grabbed this up before my 15yo ds could (I bought it for him), and she has been challenging herself to make and keep routines, be more helpful, and even wants to start a non-profit helping the homeless now! She has all kinds of great ideas. I haven't read the book yet myself, but just judging by her response, I am impressed!

This is a book that can change every teenagers life. The message that God has a plan for your life and it starts now, not when you turn 21, is so inspirational to a young person who wants more. This message can plant a seed in your heart that grows into a deep belief that God has bigger ,greater plans for you when you trust Him.

They say some good things in this book, but I wasn't looking for the sole reason to do something "hard" is for God. I am not taking away the value of doing something for God or believing, but I feel that pushing the connection with God could have been in another book. I didn't understand the authors background ahead of time - my fault. This is not a book my children will connect to. It would be great for a church youth group though.

I bought this book for my daughter and granddaughter. It is written by two homeschooling brothers who discovered a secret most teens are missing-that they are capable of doing way more than we give them credit for! A must read for all youth groups and middle to high school kids! Our daughter is a high school sophomore and read this and gave her class a book talk on it-very important stuff here. Makes a wonderful gift for teens, especially those who are leaders.

Purchased this book for my 15 year old son for Christmas. He doesn’t “love” to read but we make it a priority as a family. He came to me yesterday and said “mom this book is a page turner!” He is inspired, motivated, and has enjoyed reading. I would highly recommend!

We read this in our youth group and it's an incredible read! Really inspired many of our youth and transformed their lives! We bought theses two copies for our kids as a summer reading project. They are really enjoying their read of them! Incredible for teens to help them believe they can do way more than society expects of them!
