I love books about real teenagers. Being a real teenager myself, I often subconsciously get sucked into picturing every other teenager being a lot like me. It is interesting seeing images of teenagers from all over the world. The book is filled with pictures of teenagers and short essays that include questions they answered in an earlier interview. 9/11 is mentioned a lot.I recommend this book.

It was a library reject, but I don't mind. Great book, great idea. I used in my classroom.

Honesty....you know it when you see it. Robin Bowman's photography is as authentic as it gets.Captivating black and white potraits of teenagers telling their own story through Robin's lens. The respect she pays her subjects and their journey is so plain to see, it's hard to avert your eyes from the potraits. You get the feeling there is some of us in each of them.

Our pastor suggested our feuding family (2 years no talking but in the same Church) to all read the book. Our pastor had been praying for us those 2 years non stop - situation so sensitive that it was a difficult situation to resolve.We hadn't even got to the 3rd chapter of the book and a meeting was called where we had a formal "peacemaking" trial. Our pastor set out a plan for us and rules etc and long hidden things were brought to the surface and we were able to walk out re-united. And we haven't even finished the book! Thank you!!!

I return to this book when in need. It's helped me look at situations with people differently. This book needs to be available in every office. I don't think it's a read from front to back, is a great reference per situation.

To be honest, I only read this because it was a study group pick. I was pleasantly surprised! The information is so common sense, but I needed to read it. This book helped to change the dynamic of my marriage. We had one particular conflict we just couldn't agree on. Everything else was great, but if this issue ever came up it would be a huge snag. I read the chapter regarding the root of conflict (can't remember the chapter name). My attitude totally changed as a result and there isn't any problem talking about this particular subject anymore. I'm so glad I read this book, I believe it was divine intervention!

This book was rough for the first few chapters. Just about every few sentences had a scripture reference which was great that it was all biblical based, but I found it distracting and the book was taking me forever to get through. About halfway through I felt it got meatier and all the information was relevant and easily applied. I highly recommend. The one word that really stuck to me was DWELL. How often do I dwell on a situation which makes it worse? How often do I dwell on a situation and discuss it with others which only keeps the hurt and anger fresh? Lots of good things to remember and apply to both current and future situations. I recommend this book... if you find the first few chapters a little rough to get through - hang in there!

I thought all the other case files of Keegan was good but I think case file 4 has really out did 1 through 3that is until case file 5 comes out. Man Monae pissed me off and really hurt keagan and now he's out for blood which I don't blame him. I can't wait to see Monae see the error of her ways. This is a n www an improved Keagan and all bets are off with the B.S. he about to rain hell on all those who forsaken him.

While reading the latest from Ms.Gray, I admit I got mad. I wanted to throw my iPad at something. I did not want this book to end. I love the characters of Keagan and Mo. I am heated at Mo right now, I feel that he can do better (yep I said it) right now. I enjoyed the breaking of the fourth wall, and I got to see some of the past characters from previous books. I knew he was Something, but he much Much more. I love KEAGAN & MOE, story. MONAE had no idea what she got her fast ass into, until it was too late. You know what they say the heart knows what it wants. I tell you it was a great book and MS. GRAY you never disappoint. Can't wait for the other part.

I liked this book. I didn't love it.The author (and reviewers) continually invokes the name and justified fame of James Herriott, so I dared hope for a similar style: Herriott's books are almost wholly story, with a bit of reflection, whereas this seemed to have reverse proportions. I got tired of, and honestly bored with, all the ruminating, moralizing, defense of his profession, and desperate protestations of affection for various animals and people. I'd have preferred for Dr. Trout to primarily let the tales themselves convey these things. In 25 years of practice, one would've thought there'd be enough memorable pets to fill these 285 pages with the humor and pathos I did see shining in the recollections salted in amongst the ponderings.

The pet stories are nice and some of the descriptions of procedures and diagnoses are interesting, but often the author suddenly change the subject and veers off in another direction, usually a lengthy complaint or some verbose, uninteresting statement about the current issues in veterinary medicine, which I found to be pretty boring. I ended up skipping over pages and pages of these missives in my effort to, as one reviewer aptly put it, "get back to the dog!" Dr. Trout should have simply stuck with the stories about the few pets mentioned in this book, instead of wasting the reader's time with lengthy diatribes. Then the book would have contained only about 50 pages instead of 306, making it a good "rainy day" read.

I really liked Tell Me Where It Hurts by Dr. Nick Trout. I love books about dogs and this book did not disappoint. It touched the heart, but there was nothing that made me overly sad - it was mainly happy endings. The author did a great job of intertwining his daily life as an animal surgeon with interesting facts and information about animals, veterinarians, and other experiences.I would highly recommend this book to readers who like stories about: animals, memoirs, veterinarians and especially dogs.

I guess I was hoping for a modern day James Herriot tale: a simple story with honesty, warmth, and humor. I had a hard time staying focused on this book, and found myself frequently skimming through pages. There were endless extended similes which quickly became irritating. I had to skip over paragraphs at a time just to see what happened next. Also, the author chose to present numerous cases as though he'd treated them all in one day. As a result, every time he checked on another patient he'd operated on early in the day, I had forgotten the details of that animal's case. It was even hard to keep track of the other doctors, interns, etc.-- too many characters briefly brought in, then reappearing much later.

As with many other pet owners, my pets, in my case - 4 hefty dogs - are my babies, and I have my vet on speed dial. The author, a veterinarian surgeon, does not pull any punches in his discussion of the health of his patients and the delicate art of dealing with the owners. The author makes several comparisons to fellow British veterinarian and author James Herriot of the famed "All Creatures Great and Small" series discussing the very same issues 80+ years ago. Treatments may have vastly changed, but not the animals various ailments or the attitudes of the owners. In this book, Dr. Trout receives an emergency phone call at 3 am to perform emergency surgery on a gravely ill dog. The book tells the action pretty much hour by hour for his work day that lasts almost 24 hours of constant action. The story comes to a well defined closing with the very same dog that it started with. Written with warm, humor and a vocabulary easy to understand, it is great for all ages of animal lovers or of those who don't know the difference between a domestic or feral cat. Well worth the cost and time

I did not read the whole book or even most of it. By the time I'd read three chapters I'd had way more than enough of this long winded, self serving book, and I'm telling it just like it is. I was expecting a book on wounded or sick animal case histories based on a vet's viewpoint. I wasn't expecting a book supposedly about animals in trouble only to be treated to a few pages, if that, of a tentative opinion about the animal's diagnosis and then an abrupt switch to pages and pages and pages of the author's way over-bloated personal opinion on just about everything under the sun except the animal's problem. It was like the author was overcome with the majesty of writing a book and couldn't shut up about himself. I saw this happen several times in the first couple of chapters where suddenly the author would suddenly switch and nothing at all about the animal for most of that chapter, much less any good idea of what the vet actually DID and how the animal fared in the end. I waded through several chapters of this and finally got fed up. I didn't buy the book to read about the vet's opinion on everything BUT the poor animals. I'm amazed if this was published by a regular publisher because someone who knew something about fairness to the reader, and also something about sticking to the subject, should have been on the author's case big time about this. Seriously, a few pages of a diagnoses and then an abrupt change, trying to do a cliff-hanger but failing badly, and boring the reader, who WANTS to know what the vet did and WANTS to know how the animal fared just doesn't cut it. That is bad writing and not playing fair with the reader at all.

"Fingerprints," "Blood," and "Bones and Bodies" focus on physical evidence. The last three chapters consider other types of evidence including residues and forgeries but not cybercrime. Each chapter opens with an anticipatory question. Generous side columns are filled with "Forensic Facts," explanations of forensic careers, and other miscellaneous information. Cartoon illustrations mostly fill up space and sometimes work against the text. The "Inquire & Investigate" activities that conclude each chapter are closely tied to the topic and will give readers hands-on "behind-the-scenes" experience. The instructions can get dense but are not overly technical. The most involved projects are perhaps the DNA extraction activity and the "Shoe Print Impressions." A few activities use open flames and some require readers to find their own recipes for ingredients but provide no URL suggestions. Frequent charts and occasional graphs are needed for record keeping and analysis but no examples are provided. A complete glossary explains the many forensics specific terms.
