I saw this book in Seattle, WA where it was $25. Almost got it but didn't have the money. I liked this book because in the day when people had pictures taken of them and their pets it was a big deal. I was amazed at how many pit bulls were in the book with babies and children, all part of the family. That's what a pit bull is, a family dog. I ordered it on Amazon for a much lower rate and use the book when I do humane education presentations in schools. The book is currently on my coffee table.

Very sweet to see the love between people and their dogs.

I got this book on the recommendation of a friend who also loves dogs and was not disappointed. The pictures are amazing! I also learned a few things about the backround of some breeds I wasn't aware of and other tidbits like how to tell boys and girls apart in those vintage photos when they are all wearing "dresses". This book will stay permanently on my coffee table for visitors to see. I highly recommend it to anyone with a love of dogs, kids and history.

Of course we all believe that we have the single best dog in the world, but as the images in this wonderful book show, there have been and will always be children (and adults) who believe that their dog is truly the best. You can't help but get drawn into the lives of the children who are photographed a century and a half ago in beautiful sepia images with their beloved pet. Though I do not consider myself a true "dog person" I have the deepest affection for the dog I spent my childhood with and indeed was photographed with her in much the same fashion, although in color. This book brought back those memories of childhood and having a true best four-legged friend rushing back to me. I picked up off of the shelf and could not put it down.

I received this book as a gift from a fellow dog lover and have been pouring over it ever since. This is the kind of book that I keep out on my coffee table and browse through it over a cup of tea. i love all of authentic photos and appreciate how much the author has put into researching the content. This book is not only about the bond between humans and their dogs but also about life at the turn of the century. "The Best Dog in the World" is not only beautifully done, but it's interesting, informative, and just fun to look at! This would be a simple, timeless gift for any dog lover or someone who loves all things vintage.

A 1977 Summa Cum Laude graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Ileana has 40 years of experience in the field of Occupational Therapy. She is nationally board certified/registered and licensed to practice in Georgia. Specialty certifications in Sensory Integration, Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist and therapeutic use of Interactive Metronome. Ileana has served as an expert witness for cases involving infants and children. She is a published author of 6 books to date for children's issues primarily, including the SCALE OF SENSORY STRATEGIES TOOLKIT. AUTISM SLEEPS: Sensory Strategies to Help Restless Minds Sleep is a prior book that is also available on Amazon. Ileana is an experienced speaker from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to pediatric concerns in the home, school and community. Since 2010 she has been presenting a series of seminars across the U.S. on developing an evidence-based Sensory Strategy Plan to treat sensory-based problem behaviors. Ileana was honored at the Medical College of Georgia when given the 2005 Barbara S. Grant Award from the GA O.T. Association for her dedication and lifetime of outstanding service to the field of occupational therapy. She received the 1977 Maddak Award in the area of Physical Disability for the design of the S.K.A.T.E. (Skateboard for Kinesthetic Arm Therapeutic Exercises). Among her most meaningful accomplishments, she is credited with implementing the first Neonatal ICU Occupational Therapy program in Georgia at DeKalb Medical Center in 1979. She was also the first Occupational Therapist to develop and implement services at Scottish Rite Children’s hospital in 1981, and established the first private practice Disabled Driver Rehabilitation program in Georgia in 1982. Ileana retired from the Gwinnett County Public Schools after twenty years of service in 2015. She continued her work in school systems with Barrow County public schools, serving elementary, middle and high schools in the Special Education Department for the next school year. She provided Related Services for direct and consultative support to teachers and special needs students to help meet their Individualized Education Plan objectives. Since 2016 she has worked in two private pediatric clinics and in cyber school based services, providing home and community-based treatments as needed. As a wellness consultant and holistic therapist, she also incorporates alternative treatments as appropriate.

As an Occupational Therapist who sees a lot of children with Idiopathic Toe Walking I was looking forward to reading this book and gaining some evidence based insight to this problem and some suggestions of what can be done to help those with children who come to my office bouncing on their toes. Unfortunately this book was did not meet my expectations. The book is 53 pages of extra large writing with no new information, but instead a guide of how to construct "Toe Tamers" a low-tech weighted input piece made of metal washers, duct tape and extra large rubber bands. I'm not saying it's not a good idea, there are a lot of us who have various contraptions which we have tried and some very successfully, I'm just saying that this could have been a 4-6 page article in a the Advance magazine. The book offers no evidence based information, and no treatment suggestions other than how to make this particular "toe tamer". The book has 9 pages of How to Make a Toe Tamer (complete with extra large pictures), 10 pages of Wearing Schedule charts (the same two pages copied 5x), 9 pages with pictures from 3 case studies. The book could be the basis for a poster session at a conference, or even a short course with a lab, but the written text is not anything new, and the references are mostly from on-line sources which any of us could look up. A research study using these toe tamers would make a nice article and I urge the author to do this. Bottom line: If you want a book with step-by-step directions on how to make a "toe tamer" this is it. If you want other options, this isn't it.
